PARISH GROUPING
The Presbytery of Perth has agreed to the development of a parish grouping between the city centre Kirks of Perth. This, of course, includes St. Matthew's who now work alongside
HOLY WEEK 2011 (Monday18th - Friday 22nd April)
During Holy Week, Joint Services of Worship will take place every evening in St. Matthew's Church on Tay Street from 7pm until no later than 7:30pm. These services will be conducted by all the clergy of our four city centre Kirks.
Fifteen minute, early morning meditations, will also be led in St. Matthew's Church Session Hall from 8:30am, Monday to Friday of Holy Week.
JOINT "SEEKERS" CLASSES
For people who are new to our churches, we will be holding joint 'seekers' classes in St. Matthew's on the evenings of Monday 2nd, Tuesday 10th, and Wednesday 17th May. Each evening will begin at 7pm.
PULPIT SWAP
A further pulpit swap will take place on Sunday 5th June 2011.
Rev Scott Burton will lead worship in Perth North Church at 9:30 and 11am
Rev Hugh O'Brien will lead in St. John's at 9:30am and St. Leonard's at 11:15am.
Rev Jim Wallace will lead in St. Matthew's at 11am.
Inaugurated at a joint service of worship on Wednesday 12th November 2008, in St. Matthew's Kirk, a formal agreement has been made so that our congregations will work together more co-operatively.
The Rev James Wallace is the minister for the now linked charge of St. John's & St. Leonard's in the Fields where he is assisted by Rev Ellen Marquardt who joined us in June 2010. In Perth: North Church the Rev Hugh O'Brien is the minister. The path is, therefore, laid before us for our city centre kirks to develop more active participation in joint mission and ministry once more.
To this end we had a Ceilidh in the Salutation Hotel on Friday 13th November 2009. It went very well indeed and was a lot of fun. We also recently ran a joint introductory course to the Christian Faith that we called "Christianity Unwrapped" It took place every Wednesday night in the Tryst Room at the North Church, but each minister took turns to lead the sessions.
Lent and Holy week 2010 also saw us sharing resources, personnel and time together in worship. All services took place in the North Church but were, again, shared by each of the ministers.
A Joint Kirk Session conference also took place in St. Matthew's Church. Well attended and very focussed on our aims and objectives, the conference developed several plans for the future.
On Sunday 22nd August 2010 we had a joint Songs of Praise Service which filled St. John's Kirk with magnificent song. Everyone present seemed to appreciate a wonderful evening of praise that was the last service of worship to take place in the historic St. John's Kirk prior to the refurbishment that is now underway.
One thing that we also enjoyed on 19th September 2010 was a pulpit swap amongst our clergy.
Rev Scott Burton lead worship at St. John's l/w St. Leonards
in the Fields.
Rev Hugh O'Brien lead in St. Matthew's.
Rev Jim Wallace lead at the North Church.
QUIZ NIGHT
Held in St. Matthew's Church Hall on Saturday Saturday 20th November, 7-9pm, we had a good fun night.
CHRISTMAS 2010
In Christmas 2010 we jointly publicised our Christmas services and shared Christmas morning together in Perth North Church at 10:30am! The leaflet below was found all around the town to encourage others to come along to join us.
Shalom.
