In June 2010, the Kirk Session and Congregation at St. Matthew's voted to refurbish our 140 year old sanctuary. Our Project Board was set up in September 2010 to lead this exciting development, and is working towards confirming the purpose of St. Matthew’s Church here in Perth City Centre, and the activities we will undertake, to be followed by a “wishlist” of improvements we need or want to support our activities.
This pic is an artist's impression of what our sanctuary may end up looking like!
We are also setting up a rolling two year calendar of events to provide Fundraising, Fun and Fellowship, whilst always representing God, to help fund the changes. To help inspire us in finding God's purpose for our church in ther 21st Century, we plan to visit other churches and city centre congregations to find our what they have done, and why, and how. Some places that look interesting for us are found here.
We raised over £1300 at our sixth Arts Cafe on the Tay during Perth Festival of the Arts, providing home made soup, freshly filled rolls, homebaking, tea and coffee over the weekend when the art stalls were out on Tay Street and Perthshire Art Association used our smaller halls for their Festival Exhibition.
Our fundraising diary is looking forward to our Chrismas Bazaar on November 19 with a variety of stalls, activities and refreshments for all the family, .
Our minister has also written a book about his spiritual reflections on the sport of whitewater kayaking which he enjoys. This will be published in the last quarter of the year. All proceeds from the sale of Holy Whitewater will be going to our refurbishment fund.
Please, also, if you have thoughts, suggestions or questions about our project, email office@stmatts.org.uk with your ideas and offers of help.
