Shopping for Justice!
St. Matthew’s has a busy and committed TRAIDCRAFT team, with an annual turnover of more than £6000. Traidcraft works very closely with growers and manufacturers in several Third World countries, guaranteeing them a fair price for their labour and their product.
Justice is an integral part of the Gospel “package”, and Scripture consistently proclaims injustice as an insult to God and a wrong done to His people. By encouraging folk in St. Matthew’s to do at least some of our weekly shopping with purse in one hand and faith in the other, we are trying to live out our faith in the shopping mall as much as in the sanctuary!
Our stall, which is on display every Sunday at COFFEE TIME after morning worship, offers a wide range of cereals, dried fruits, greetings cards, and stationery, confectionery (especially excellent “Divine” chocolate), toilet paper, biscuits, ornaments, jewellery and much more.
Catalogues are available, and monthly or weekly orders can be placed and prepared for you by the team of volunteers. The team also supply products to other churches, has set up a Traidcraft stall at several fetes and fayres, and gives talks on Traidcraft to guilds, WRI and the like.
